following on from my previous hand drawn perspective sketch this week I recreated that design using Adobe Illustrator. I found two YouTube videos which were very useful for this task. One of these videos showed me how to access and use the two point perspective grid tool (Erin Gipford, 2018) and the other showed me how text could also be used in the perspective tool, (Design Cuts, 2017).
Once I had managed to implement the two point perspective grid the creating of my design became very simple. I used various sized squares which I spread over different layers to show a busy city street. For the colours I used a light grey to show concrete and a slightly darker grey for the side of the same building in order to show the light source. I also used a old English brick red for different buildings and a sandstone beige for the tower to help differentiate it.
There are different shapes of roofs to use in order to make the scene seem more realistic and help show strong use of perspective. I also coloured some of the windows yellow to show different rooms with their lights on and add interest.
Finally I added the roads and pavement to the foreground, I did this to add perspective and add interest to the scene. Also I used different fonts for the different business names and advertisements to make the scene seem realistic.
Overall I am happy with the design but do think I could have added a couple of small things to add depth to the design. I could have added feint lines to the buildings to show brickwork. Also, adding street lights or bollards to the road divider along the right hand side would have increased the perspective shown.
My feedback from the lecturer followed along with my thoughts of the design, which is why my redesign is more of an adjustment. I added line work into the corner of the buildings in order to add brickwork. I tried to add street lights into the scene however couldn’t get them to adjust size according to the perspective used in the design. There isn’t much difference between my two designs but I do think adding the brick lines worked well and am happy with the final result.
