Group Work
Week four consisted mostly of me continuing to add to my environment and one team meeting in which we discussed our idea with Stuart. When the group met with Stuart Adam briefed I’m on our idea to change the game from a horror to a cleaning simulator. However it was pointed out that the game loop would them not be particularly fun. Stuart made a joking comment ‘you have to clean the house with grenades’ and while this was a joke it did spark my interest.
In 2009 developer Twisted Pixel Games released “’Splosion Man”. The premise of this game was that the player had only two controls, one to move and the other to ‘’splode’ which used the physics reaction to an explosion to propel the player forward. The player would then use this system to navigate the platformer world. I remember how fun I found this mechanic when I played the game and I thought it would be a good way to implement this into our game. This would have to require some kind of physics system but should give the player a fun incentive to clean.
My idea was that there would be a bin of some kind in the great hall and the player had to use explosions to propel litter into the bin within a time limit. Another game I used for inspiration was ‘Garfield’, developed by The Code Monkeys and Hip Interactive Europe in 2004 the player had to clean the entire house within two hours before the owner of the house comes home. I thought using the time mechanic could be a good way of rushing the player.
Individual work
I didn’t use references for the models I produced this week, as I didn’t feel it necessary for the models I was making. The bookcase work well as side dressing thought I do need to fill the with books, and the sliding ladder does make the scene look more complete.
The Texturing works well but it was here that I realised almost all of my environment would be wood grain, and as such in coming weeks I would try to reduce the amount of brown wood visible.
