Welcome to my final devlog. here I will give general thoughts of the issues and challenges I encountered while making my game as well as my thoughts on the final product.

There were a few finishing touches I had to make before I would feel comfortable submitting my game. I added a backing track, which you can find below. I’m hoping this somewhat makes up for the fact I couldn’t add the firing and explosion sound effects I wanted to add.

Also I added a line of code that deleted the game bullet objects after two seconds if they are not already destroyed through contact with an enemy. This is simply to make sure the game runs as smoothly as possible. Otherwise the game would keep track of bullets that would just keep flying off screen which would take up processing power.

In truth I’m conflicted on the final game. In hindsight my plan for the game was entirely too ambitious for the skill level I have. I have never been proficient at coding and that is still very much the case. However simple the game is though it does at least work well, and I feel it better to submit a low scale game that runs well than a large scale game that was half cooked. I liked designing the different tanks for the game but don’t think the game really captures my love for the time period as I had hoped.

I faced many challenges with this game, most notably a strange problem where the enemy would respawn as a prefab which didn’t interact in any way. This was a very confusing issue to solve that took me and the lecturer a long time to fix. So no matter how simple the game may be I am at least proud of what I did manage to make.

As always there are things I would have liked to add, but don’t really know how I could. I am annoyed that all the enemies ended up having the same health. They needed to do so in order to have them respawn correctly however it somewhat renders the work I put in to making the different tanks mute other than the aesthetic.

I had planned to change the game to be sort of a hybrid between a tower defence game and a top-down shooter. I thought it would be nice to have the player be able to place turrets for example, however again I simply don’t know how to achieve this.
