At this point the group really started meeting each week and discussing ideas and progress. I will list the group events first, before discussing my individual contribution each week.
Group Work
At this stage we had a rough idea of what the game was supposed to be. Adam provided me with basic room so that I had a scale to build to. This week was a little quite otherwise in terms of idea development but would increase rapidly in following weeks.
Individual work
I made a couple of models in the third week for my environment. Adam, who created the layout for the mansion gave me a basic four walled room which gave me the sizes I needed to know for my room. Once I had this, I could start placing the assets and scaling them appropriately as I made them. I won’t go through the modelling process with this model as it was very straight forward.
There was one issue with came into play with this bookcase though, I wanted it to be a double-sided archway bookcase which would help with the puzzle aspect of the group. However, in week three Adam came up with the idea of taking the game in a different route of a cleaning title. This new direction ended up helping me with this model as I could unwrap the uv of the double-sided model and could only fix it by cutting the model in half. The problem with this was that the arch was not in the centre which meant I couldn’t duplicate the object and place them back-to-back.
The solution to this issue was to use the half model and fill one of the walls with it, then placing an ornate image produced by Jasmine in the archway to make it look planned. I think this was a pretty good solution and does look as though it was intended in the environment.
Also, because I now had the environment size, I could see how the assets will look to the player. Because of this when I placed the pedestal, I had previously made into the scene I felt like it was missing something. I felt like the bottom was a little small and so made a stone mount for the pedestal to stand on.
Finally, as the group met this week, I suggested one of the groups make a 3d room as his original task of creating the menu for the game was already complete and so he needed work to make.
Below is how my environment looks like at the end of week 3.
