Before I could start with my production pieces, I had to get a good idea of the assets I needed to make to fill my room. In essence my task for this group project was to make a 3d Library environment for the player to explore. This would require the creation of many assets which I needed to organise in terms of which will need to the most amount of time and effort.
I found a few environment images that I thought looked nice and gave me a understanding of what I would need to produce.
The above reference shows the house of lords archive in the 1800’s. This was a really useful image as it showed me a lot of the things that go into an antique library. Most of my asset ideas stem from this image along with a couple of additions.
Below is the reference that got me thinking about how the room would work as a puzzle game room. Using this fascinating arch bookcase structure allows me to disorient the player just enough for them to feel a little lost, however my passageway will not be clear as seen here but instead more like a maze. I feel like this would be really cool as the players purpose in this room is to find either the key that opens the mansions front door or a note hinting at what other room holds the key (depending on which room the group decide to place the key in). So making it more of a maze would hopefully get the player to explore the room thoroughly looking for the key.

My Provisional Asset List:
From these references I have come up with a list of assets that I believe would allow me to populate the room nicely, these are however just provisional as just like with my diner pack last term I may decide I need to add more assets or change them as I go. (All links will take you to relevant production post)
- Ornate Chandelier
- Ceiling + Floor Pattern
- Bookshelves (Variety ((I’ll start with the archway version and see if I need more))
- Books – (x7((I’ll experiment with how many different sizes and models I need to fill a bookshelf nicely))
- Sliding Wooden Ladders (Two or three different heights)
- Vintage Simple Chairs
- Vintage ‘Comfy’ Chair
- Globe drinks cabinet
- Drapes (Need to discuss windows with the group)
- Organizational drawer block (Like a model makers)
- Coat Hanger (If Needed, might be better suited to Foyer room)
- Reading Pedestal
- Character Bust (Only if required as will potentially need to use Zbrush)
Many of the assets I have chosen are pretty straight forward and will be done in any order, but I will start with the chandelier as I believe that asset to be a necessity and think it will be one of the more complex models, so want to give it the time it needs. At the same time, I will leave the bust until last as I would need to learn a new software to make it properly and doubt, I will have time to do so. Other than these two assets I don’t anticipate any of them to be overly difficult but will allow me to experiment with techniques I haven’t used before.
