For my team project I was assigned a 3D prop making role. We decided to make a first-person 3D horror game set in a haunted mansion, there are three 3D designers and each of us have decided to split the game world map into three parts. I will be designing the library for the map and the other two designers will be creating other areas.
Originally the group wanted to make something like outlast where the player would be chased by a monster but I thought it would be good for the game to revolve around a puzzle mechanic instead, where the player has to find the key for the front door in one of the three rooms made by the three 3d designers. This way the modellers wouldn’t have to learn Zbrush to make the enemy as I believe none of us have used the software previously.
I liked the idea of making a vintage library as it was very different from the American diner assets I made last term and would allow me to experiment with different methods and techniques for these assets.
The only thing I am unsure about with this task is making enough assets to fill the room convincingly. For the American diner I had a set number of assets to make, whereas with this I need to make enough assets to fill the scene convincingly. I am very exited by this task though, as I have yet to make a complete environment and am looking forward to the challenges that come with that such as how the props are displayed within the room’s boundaries.
I will begin by finding source materials. Firstly, I am going to find library images from the 1800’s to give me an idea of the assets I will need to create, then i will post weekly updates on my activities and what I have brought to the group meetings.
