*Disclaimer*. The assignment brief states I need 200 dpi tiff files. I cannot find a method to achieve this in the render setting in maya. These are 200 ppi tiff files, I have spoken with one of the lecturers and believe these should be high quality enough to fulfil the criteria.
Fuel Pump
I decided to use a nice vivid green for my fuel pump, as I really liked the reference I used and thought the green would really stand out from the other assets I have, mostly made from red and whites. The hose and nozzle didn’t bake as well as I would have liked and the signage denoting the cost could have done with some more work.
Overall, I really like this model, it was confusing learning how to apply decals however I feel they really complete the design. I added a bit more wear and tear to this model than the others as this would naturally live outside when used in a game world.
Vintage Phone
The phone and fuel pump are the two models that use stencils in their textures. I like this model but don’t think it worked quite as well as the fuel pump did. I feel while the wear and tear is nice it is perhaps a little too extreme for what I was aiming for. Also I probably should have added numbers into the circles, which I think would help make the model appear finished.
I think these two models are my favourites, perhaps because of the use of stencils or because of the nice wear both objects have. Though I believe the fuel pump does look slightly more finished than the phone does, I should have added a maker’s mark to the metal plates and something in the dial face holes. Over the summer I will go back and touch up this texture before I add the model to my portfolio.
