For this years d3t rising star challenge I have been tasked to create a 3d environment based of the theme ‘Isolation’. For me this theme goes hand in hand with anxiety, which took me down the route of designing a horror environment. Part of this challenge is to create a 2d mock up of the scene I intend to make in 3d.
I wanted to further experiment with perspective drawing here and thought this would be a good opportunity to use the 1-point perspective tool. I started by making a drawing of my scene, which I feel did a good job of incorporating the uneasy horror feeling I was going for with this image.
I am actually pretty happy with my drawing, however, with my 3d scene there is going to be a focus on colour and so I felt I should make this 2d design in illustrator to show the style I will be pursuing.
My 3d scene isn’t going to need all four sides of the room to be created, as from the viewpoint the viewer will not see a full 360 degrees around the camera. That’s why to start with I created this 2d scene ass I will the 3d scene. However because of the perspective used in this image I did end up modelling more of the environment than needed, just to give the oppressive feel the design needed.
I made a few mistakes with my first 2d design, namely not modelling the ceiling and third wall, along with making the chair legs far to small for the rest of it. For my next design I extended the chair legs and added the extra wall and ceiling to make the design more enclosed and claustrophobic.
I also added the bright pink teddy bear into the scene, which I feel gives a nice juxtaposition to the otherwise muted scene. From the sketch, I added floorboards. Which I feel help show the perspective drawing of the design.
